COPING WITH DRY SKIN

In our last publication, we promised to give you tips on how to handle and manage your dry skin so as to have the glow you desire in case the basic skincare routine doesn’t work for you. Well, this is us keeping to our promise and bringing you tips on how you can best soothe your dry skin. We are sure you will find these tips very useful.

1. Rinse your face in the morning
Cleansers are known to remove good oils from the skin, so it is best you avoid them in the morning. Settle for warm water instead. Rinse your face with warm water and pat it dry. It is however okay for you to make use of the cleanser before going to bed at night.

2. Remove your makeup with oil cleansers
Most makeup products comprise alcohol and other harsh ingredients that can dry out your skin and cause irritation. Oil cleansers remove makeup more gently than makeup removing wipes, and you don’t even get to stress yourself. All you have to do is apply the oil to your dry skin and wash off with warm water.

3. Wait! Apply the serum before the moisturizer
Serums are water moisturizers that give an extra boost of hydration to the skin. Since you have dry skin, it is best to leave it as hydrated as possible to avoid your skin from getting irritations. Use a cotton ball to dab the serum onto your face and allow it to absorb well into your skin before you apply moisturizer.

4. Make use of creams that contain oils
For those with dry skin, oil-based products are the best friends you can ever have. They do not only keep your skin hydrated but also seal the moisture into your skin. Oil-based products usually have oil listed as one of the first ingredients.
While mineral oil or petrolatum may come in handy to those with cracked skin or flaky patches, Rosehip oil and jojoba oil can help lock moisture in your skin by preventing it from going out.

5. Settle for soothing ingredients for your irritations
Those with dry or sensitive skin are usually prone to irritation or flaky skin and will need products with moisturizing ingredients like aloe, chamomile, green tea extract or Vitamin C to take care of it.
However, be mindful of the amount of Vitamin C that you apply as too much of it can cause dryness. In case you start experiencing the dryness, resort to using Magnesium ascorbic phosphate to remedy it.

6. Stay away from products that contain alcohol and other astringents
Alcohol can dry out the skin and cause irritation to sensitive skin, so be sure to read the ingredients of all the products you use, so you can avoid alcohol. Apart from alcohol, other irritating ingredients that you should avoid include; Witch hazel, peppermint, eucalyptus oil, fragrance and acids.

We are pretty sure that if you follow these tips religiously, you would begin to experience a positive difference in your skin and attain the glow which you have always desired.
